Shay was an 11-time varsity letterman, receiving 3 in volleyball, 4 in basketball, and 4 in track. In track, Shay was a four-time MVP, four-time EIAC conference MVP, a qualifier for the Regional her freshman and sophomore years, and a qualifier for State her junior and senior years in the 300-meter hurdles and long jump. In volleyball, she was team MVP her senior year, All-Conference her sophomore, junior, and senior years, as well as All-Sectional her sophomore, junior, and senior years. In basketball, she was All-Conference and All-Sectional in her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She was also a varsity cheerleader in her junior and senior years.

In track, she holds the records in the 100 meter hurdles (15.7), 300 meter hurdles (47.1), long jump (17’8”), and 1600 meter relay (4:20).

After high school, Shay graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Exercise Physiology. She currently works at Christ Hospital, where she has been since 1995, in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Health and Wellness.

She is married to her high school sweetheart, Mark Parris. Their daughter, Paxton Parris, was a three-sport athlete in high school, obtaining 10 varsity letters. Their son, Mason Parris, was a 3 sport athlete at LHS, a 12-time varsity letterman, a 3 time State Champion in wrestling, an NCAA National Champion, and most recently, a World Bronze Medalist at the World Championships in Serbia. Mark and Shay’s time has been spent coaching and cheering on their children throughout their athletic careers. They just welcomed their first grandson, Viggo, on August 9, 2023.
