Roy Neary

Roy Neary lettered in Basketball, Baseball and Track for LHS. He then proceeded to Xavier University where he lettered in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. Was nicknamed “One-Play Neary” for beating rival Ohio University in Football with a 95 yard touchdown in the final seconds of the game.

In August, 1941, Roy enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and was trained to fly a P-38. In March 1943, he was killed in action in India. He was awarded a Purple Heart, United States Aviator Badge, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.

In 1946, Roy was honored by the Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation by having his name attached to the Lawrenceburg High School Football Stadium and in that year, the first Neary Memorial Trophy was presented by his brother, Walter J. Neary, to the Most Outstanding Football Player as nominated and voted on by the Lettermen of that team.
